Tank specs:

M4A2E4 Guide Untitled-1

Its tree:

M4A2E4 Guide ShermanTechTree

Overview:
The M4A2E4, being a premium tank, is better than a stock T5 medium but worse than a fully upgraded T5 medium. It has a premium version of a M3 Lee upgraded gun which means that its armament is poor by tier 5 standards. The low penetration, decent damage, poor accuracy, fast RoF and decent aim time do mean it can chew through lower tier tanks, but in order to fight T6 and even some T5 enemies, it needs careful aim, flanking or luck in order to kill em. Thankfully, the high amount of ammo means it can spam as many AP and HE shots as it needs to, in order to get the job done. The great gun depression can also help to achieve shots without retaliation.
Top speed is very good, and so are ramming capabilities. It also seems to have good maneuverability on soft terrain. This is offset by the only decent engine, which means that overall agility and acceleration are not that high.
The armour is very good for a T5 medium tank. Frontally, it is quite tough. Same can be said for turret. However, side and rear are big and penetrable by tier 3 vehicles.

Important: Try not to sell this tank as when the sell tanks feature is here, it might just well cost you a fortune.

Price: Gift (otherwise, 1 500 gold)
Camouflage: Good
Gun Depression:-10°/+25°

Pros:
-Good frontal armor.
-Good rate of fire.
-Decent money-making abilities.
-Good gun depression.
-Low matchmaking.

Cons:
-Bad penetration.
-Not that accurate.
-Mediocre mobility.

Designation:
1. Warrior  2. Steel Wall  3. Medium Support

Crew:
1. Commander
2. Gunner
3. Driver
4. Radio Operator
5. Loader

Modules:
Armor scheme of the M4A2E4:
Spoiler:

Hull:
Greatly armored at the front, but bad at the sides and rear. Most tier 3 tanks (except Murder II), most tier 4 tanks (except Hetzer and SU-85B) and even some tier 5 tanks will have a LOT of trouble dealing damage at the front. Sides and rear are minced-meat for most vehicles near the M4A2's tier though.

Suspension:
M4A2E4T42 . Max.capacity: 33.3 (T) / rate of turn 37 deg / sec
Good enough and you can mount some more equipment too. Very good mobility on soft terrain.

Engine:
GM 6046 engine . 410 hp / 15% chance of fire /
A power to weight ratio of 12.9 is good enough to feel mobile when you have to.

Radio:
Radio Station SCR 508/ range  570m
Its good almost all the time.

Turret:
M4A2E4 D51066
Armor 89/50/50mm
40 deg per sec /
View range of 368m

Strong and sloped, especially at the gun mantlet. Capable of bouncing around 144 mm of penetration. Side and rear are vulnerable though.

Guns:
75mm Gun M3L/37
RoF: 15,77
Penetration: 92/127/38
Average damage: 110/110/175
Accuracy (100m): 0,46
Aim time: 2,06 sec

Same as the M3 Lee upgraded (unfortunately it isn’t researched for the M3 if you have the Sherman) which is not good… you will have problems killing Hetzers and Leopards and other shermans. PZ4s and T-34s don’t seem too hard. PZ ¾ will bounce a lot. KV if aimed right can be penned easily, so can T1. Arty at tier 4 and less are 1-shotable by the powerful HE shell.

Comparison with it peers:

M4A2E4 vs M4 Sherman
The M4 MUCH worse armor. Its shape and thickness just aren't equal to the M4A2E4. Stock M4 is very weak compared to the CBT, but a fully upgraded one has access to the 105 and 76mm guns which are miles better than the M3L. Upgraded it also has as a whole better mobility and acceleration thanks to a superior engine, though when going down-hill you will have the advantage as the M4A2E4 has a little higher top speed.
In short
M4A2E4 is a great ramming tank, better than M4
M4A2E4 is better than stock sherman but is worse against higher tier opponents.
Both make a lot of credits, but CBT does earn more
Usually M4A2E4 wins 1v1 engagements against sherman, no matter the upgrades.

M4A2E4 vs PZ IV
The Panzer IV is much weaker when stock, but packs a serious amount of fire power once with the 75L70 or 105 mm gun. The CBT out guns the IV until it has the 75L48, but still has a higher DPM. Both tanks have good armor at this tier, but again the M4A2E4 has better frontal armor.
In short
M4A2E4 is better than stock PZ4 but is worse against higher tier opponents.
Both make a lot of credits, but CBT does earn more
M4A2E4 wins most 1v1 engagements no matter the PZ4 equipment.

M4A2E4 vs T-34
M4AE4 wins 1v1 engagements no matter the upgrades on T-34. T-34 is faster and more accurate with more penetration, but you still have more armor.
In short
M4A2E4 is better than stock T-34 but is worse against higher tier opponents.
Both make a lot of credits, but CBT does earn more
M4A2E4 wins most 1v1 engagements no matter the T-34 equipment.

M4A2E4 vs PZ3/4
Both have about the same armor. PZ3/4 is faster and more maneuverable. Both are good vs smaller tanks, though turret on PZ3/4 is a possible weak-spot
In short:
Both arent really good vs higher tier opponents, though PZ3/4 is a little better when fully upgraded
1v1 its PZ3/4 victory mostly
M4A2E4 is still better at credit making.

Historical M4A2E4 in battle
The M4A2E4 was made to be a lend-lease tank for exportation to other countries like the Soviet Union and Great Britain that used gasoline engines. It also has a very advanced suspension system, that was very difficult to maintain. Only 2 M4A2E4s were ever made. That doesnt stop them from being used in historical battles (check them out, here on the forums) as just of another sherman tank so it does pass. Its great when facing historical PZ4s and can kill a tiger from the side.

I have used to the one-time premium tank restore service to get it back a short whole ago after rage selling it at the end of last year when, in hindsight, I just wasn't good enough at the game to make it work for me (as well as not having premium-for-credits ammo at the time).

I am using it as a crew trainer, with my M4 Sherman crew, as well as in the RAM II, both to great success. I do recommend fairly liberal use of premium shells, because you don't always have the mobility needed to flank and you will be useless in a T7 match without it.

The gun is the same as the T14. Contrary to the guide, I don't recommend using HE much unless you are reasonably certain you will penetrate. Damage rolls for non-penetrating HE are just too unreliable these days.
