Re: Donating towards the TS server
Harald that's not a bad idea from the money point of view.
Because for 30 - 50 € you might get a virtual server.
But the problem is that there is more work necessary. Dependent on the OS (hosted Linux is most of the time cheaper then windows) you need someone who installs and configures the basic TS and keeps it running ... does updates of the server OS (security reasons) keeps the TS Server software up to date and so on. Also I am not sure if the configuration of a normal TS is as "easy" as the hosted one now used but I did not look into it in detail.
At the moment all this stuff is done by our current teamspeak provider.

Re: Donating towards the TS server
a virtual server for this capacity can be had relatively cheap,I figure about €10/month.
As long as you keep the server right and simple and keep our up to date with its package management there should be no risks. I've run Linux servers myself for years without ever getting owned.
I'd be willing to give out a try if SGTA staff thinks it's worthwhile.
Ultimately it's about weighing off costs though and I don't know wether a 100 seat server costs more than €10-20/month.

Re: Donating towards the TS server
well if it was last year that time i would have said we could give it a try because i had 2 servers for private use in a data center in vienna with a decent internet connection (Windows and Linux) but i canceled them this spring (a bit expensive for just shits and giggles).
Just thought about how often i looked after them ... your right the effort to keep a server running is not the problem Just dropped in some parts of the job where everything is as difficult as possible to sell it as expensive as possible ;-)
Have a look at the hosters site: http://www.teamspeak.co.uk/order/teamspeak3 to see their prices.

Re: Donating towards the TS server
Raidcall I don't know about. As for virtual servers and the like... that's getting way over my head, I'm afraid.
It may well be cheaper but more fiddly, I'm not sure, I've no experience at all of trying to set TS3 up on a server, doing it through the site that I've used basically meant handing over some money and then having it all set up automatically. Perhaps it's really easy, I dunno. The only big advantage I can see for using the current setup is that in terms of doing this (donating towards upkeep) no-one's having to send actual money to anyone else, so it's much less complicated in that regard.
I had a check, by the way, and for the current tokens we could renew for 80 seats/9 months, or 100 seats/6 months.

Is that changeable mid-way?

We can up the number of seats at any time, it basically brings the next renewal date forward.

But can we bring it down as well?

Re: Donating towards the TS server
To be fair, unless we start a second clan even 50 seats should be more than enough, no? I rarely see 20+ online ingame, let alone on TS.

I was kind of wondering about that myself, apart from during a TC you struggle to see more than 20 people online :-/
Do we regularly use more than the default 32?

Re: Donating towards the TS server
I think this was raised while the cw trainings and cw campaign due to having at least 15( while cw) or while training where the room was sometimes full (30 people) and several platoons goning on. Also don't forget it is summer so less activity in general ;-)

Please also consider that we are expanding as clan. probably we will ask PHJ to add more platoon rooms.
