As successful as the game is, WG just can't help coming across as amateur, uncaring, trollish, money-grabbing and seedy  

I was considering buying an E25 but I'll hold off until this is resolved.

I don't personally care what inscriptions there is in-game. But I do find it funny that a lot of German inscriptions are not used because of "WG's strong anti-fascist position". But all Soviet inscriptions are ok because it's historically accurate.

Btw am I the only one who get's the feeling that the last 2 paragraphs are written by a different person?

Yep I expected it to be canned earlier too. I also expected it to be completely wiped out as opposed to just locked... I am not sure if I should expect a happy ban any time soon.

Jingoistic nationalism and government sponsored victimisation of minorities, nothing much has changed really in Russia for the last 5 or 6 centuries.

The point is that the inscriptions were removed from the EU/NA/Asia servers because "Uncle Joe" isn't so fondly remembered in many places. I still don't get what the big deal would be if someone had 'for Josef Stalin' in Russian on his tank, especially since you wouldn't even really notice it anyway given the size of the models.

I wouldn't give a toss if I saw something like 'fur das reich' either, there's a big difference between some role-playing and actual ideology.

Personally if it was a level playing field and we could all worship our own national dictators then fair enough but why the fuck should we all have to put up with only the Russki cunt?

Cromwell was responsible for many thousands of deaths(Irish Catholics were mass murdered and many others were killed throughout Britain) when he was our dictator, he has a tank named after him just like Stalin because that's what the tank was called Do I want an insignia on the side of it saying how great he was...... that'll be a big no!

Whilst it is just a game it is important to remember there are many alive now who experienced the horrors of such periods or who are or were close to those that did. It is in truth a sensitive issue regardless of popular opinion. Wargaming should handle this in a professional manner. Considering all parties whilst remaining impartial.

I wonder what the staff in Paris and elsewhere are saying... they probably sign papers to say they will keep silent on such issues or face the rack.

Another thing that is botheringis the way they announced that they would implement this. There announcement pretty much says "look we know he is "contreversial" (i.e. murdered millions) but he killed a lot of nazis too so he is allright, we where kind enough not to put these inscriptions untill now, but now we don't care as much so have them whether you like it or not". 

Again, you may not empathise with this, but the polish people have suffered under this mans boot. Announcing his name will be on tanks in a celebratory manner... welll not so cool for them. Modern historians pretty much assimilate Stalin to Hitler as far as brutality is concerned. Saying you will not tolerate the later but you will the former for reasons of "historical accuracy" that's plain bollocks.

Do remember that they kicked out Jingles from their tankfest kiosk not so long ago, because his german crew uniform (yes the same one that is in the game), was not acceptable because it had two tiny svastikas (they where part of the historical uniform) for reasons of "political correctness". From there saying that Stalin insignia are ok is hypocritical for the least.

Either you make a historically accurate game overall (and you include svastikas, since they where part of the historical context of the time), either you decide not to include them (hundreds of games have included such symbols and they are not pro-nazi, they have had to make special copies for countries where it is forbiden though), in which case calling for "historical accuracy" and include the insignia of a butcher is a big no-no.

That's what all the fuss is about. Hypocrisy and calling for "historical accuracy" bollocks whenever it suits them. Whenever it does not, oh it is an arcade game not a simulation, we do not include graphical violence and we do not include nazi symbols because they are ilegal in SOME countries.

btw I am not very sure, but even in Germany the law tolerates the use of the svastika for purely historical reasons, within context and without celebrating or gloryfying the period in question.

Finally, what is even worst, following the outcry of the decision, they unleashed all the mod team and axed and/or locked all the relevant topics in the forums. The most inconvenient ones dissapeared as if they where never written. That is some harsh way of dealing with people that do not agree with you. They obviously do not only admire Stalin, but also admire his methods.

I PMed the mod that axed my topic, and he pretty much admited that this decision the senior staff took was pretty much a disaster. Therefore there is something to fuss about and there is something wrong in this whole story.

I'm sure the WG EU guys are feeling pretty uncomfortable at the moment and are having a WTF moment regarding their bosses. However, if Overlord's blog is anything to go by, the Belarus guys don't give a stuff and seem to be enjoying the "fun."

Doesn't his latest post, and especially the photo, seem designed to give the EU guys the finger? Even if this isn't the case his remarks in the last two comments sections clearly seem unrepentant or even boastful of their current stance.

@Lemmingtrain: I think he's just having a poke at his own management. He himself doesn't work directly on wot anymore, so his probably pretty powerless about it all.

Have got to agree with his opinion though: a lot of people are clouded by their emotions and a lot less people probably care than you'd think since those that care are being vocal.
