1 vs 1 M4 Sherman
Hi,
Requesting a lesson to help improve with my M4 Sherman, as i'm planning on continuing the American medium line, and also switching over to the E2 and the heavy tank. Best times for me are around 10:00pm-12:00 (midnight) GMT + 0, but i can definitely do other times
Thanks

Re: 1 vs 1 M4 Sherman
May as well just show this funny replay. It illustrates that i'm not exactly.. tactical with this tank.. but it's quite amusing
(I use autoaim sometimes because of terrible (8 or so - with textures mod) fps.
And how on earth did i take 1.9k potential damage with my armor???

Did come out on top in a T6 game though!

Re: 1 vs 1 M4 Sherman
haha, lol that was a funny brawl with that KV-1s
I have played the M4 Sherman (don't own it anymore, got the E8 and the Jumbo instead). Both it's guns are good.
the way you played it in the replay wouldn't be my kind of playstyle in the M4. I might similar tactics like you in the Pz3/4 which is really fast, allthough I would probably haven't engaged so aggressive. The firepower and the durability of tier 6 is a lot more than yours, carefull when you engage them and never get involved in a shootout. (IMO the step from tier 5 to tier 6 in (firepower and) survivability is really big, maybe a bit imbalanced)
I used to play (and play the M4a2E8) a lot more defensively, abusing all the gun depression I have. I'm used to peek shots over ridges and hills and reatreat to reload a new shot. The mobility of the M4 offers the opportunity to change flanks an outmanouvre your enemies. This + the fact the accuracy on the move is pretty good for the US meds, make you a good dogfighter and allow you to easily circle enemy heavies (KV-1, T-150), VK3001H, VK3601H).
I won't say your playstyle is wrong, but I'm used to play the M4 differently, a lot more defensive like I stated before.
To conclude: a medium is a very versatile type of tank (mobility, firepower, survivability, etc..), use this versatility to beat the enemy.

Re: 1 vs 1 M4 Sherman
Oh yes, you can downright say my tactic is wrong I still can't get my need to play aggressively out of my head... i often forget i'm not a Kv1 in a Tier 5 game
Will try playing more defensively, the problem i find is i never know the right positions . Whenever i try i seem to spend my time not being able to shoot anyone, which is where i then charge at the enemy as i did so... luckily... in that replay

Re: 1 vs 1 M4 Sherman
Getting in to position is something you'll learn by playing I think. I still have trouble getting in to good positions with TD's.
Tip for the M4: anything elevated whether, hill, ridge or whatever is useful to engage from and to retreat behind.

But finding those ridges, e.t.c from which you can fire at the enemy.. that's the problem
