8.9 incoming! dl link - first impressions etc...

Hi all

With 0.8.9 (yes i insist on the 0.-part) incoming wouldnt it be good to have a place to collect our thoughts and first impressions?

Yesterday someone gave a link to official forum wherein there was a link to insta-download patch? Pls?

How are things for you guys?
Did you manage to grind large amounts of exp on the marder II to be ready for the german op's?

Further down in the thread someone says the files are broken, so I guess they arent so hot...

I'm already downloading through the launcher.

Me too - I've also updated it using the WoT Launcher.exe file in the WoT root folder - it's only 442 Mb.

The servers should go live around 13:00 CET time but it is usually a bit earlier.

xvm should be updated now - nice fast and smooth. Now i just need that jimbo's...

Get up - turn PC on - download wot - spend rest of day trying to figure out the fucking mods.

I think the downtime was longer on this one - if i read the text from Ectar right in the discussion post on official forum its an 7hr. maintenance / update.

Just download a 8.9 replay from WoTReplays or the like and use this to set up your mods. It allows you to set them up without the risk of crashing out of game which can make you rather unpopular

My thoughts exactly. Saves me a lot of battles in my MS-1, cos that is the only tank I dare to drive when there's a chance that broken mods may totally **** up my UI.
If all else fails, park MS-1 in a bush and randomly shoot at where tomatoes normally drive, get 7 kills and top damage done.

I test my mods in the nice tutorial with that fake T-34-85, Tiger II and Panther.

Treborn's works fine but you will need to rename the folder in the RAR file to 0.8.9 as it is still labeled 0.8.8.

All my mods installed and tested in 15 mins -  record for me (Used Christie's mod pack  with Treborn's Zoom Mod, Received Damage Announcer, and Colour Messages and Session Stats too).

I have most of my mods running again, but... the client crashes randomly after battles.
Instead of loading the results screen, it just does a crash to desktop 75% of the time last night.

Anyway, I only did a few test runs. I took out my T18, which has now been dubbed the "Combatcar Crusher". In one match I was the ONLY non-combatcar in the entire match. It was malinovka. I ended up with:

11 kills
1098 damage done
0 damage taken
1903 potential damage received.
Top Gun, Sniper, Reaper, Cool-Headed, Ace Tanker

Im about to launch for the first match. The xvm-updater should work along with jimbo's so i should be fine. Besides from that, I guess im in for a ride.

There was some issues with crashing last night according to the xvm crew. I dont know if its fixed yet.

Yeah, found some threads that suggest the crashes I had were XVM related. Tonight I'll try with latest nightly build.

I updated XVM and had a crash to desktop after one battle. Other than that, everything pretty much looks the same to me...

I think it is XVM related and happens only after battles in which your tank gets destroyed. If you survive, it works OK.

A good incentive to raise your survival rate then... Maybe it was intentional
