Re: SGTA Historical Battles
We can try to balance the staff by taking in account the casualties (if stated). Lets say German lost 10 tanks at the cost of 30 French (or any other option). So if the balance should be equal we can try to put 1 German tank in team A against 3 French in team B. Otherwise, the "try and error" procedure always works.Dong760 wrote:Was thinking about this. For example, the French had a lot of FT17s in 1940, mostly armed with machine guns!
We will need to balance any scenario very carefully because it will be impossible otherwise with a Tier 1 pew pew gun
Secondly, we have to decide if we want to replicate the outcome of historical battle or if we want answer the question, what will happen if one side has different composition (but I think this probably opens whole new level of imagination).

Re: SGTA Historical Battles
Hi research part I for Battle of Hannut:
Tanks and their distribution Germany:
Tanks and their distribution France:
The panhards are armed cars so might be dropped of the calculation of replaced by some different lower tier tank to get a bit of varity.
Outcome: Summed up the french where ordered to retreate there but the S35's hit the german's hard.
% ... percent of tanks of the whole battle force
distribution ... calculated on a 15 tank team how many of this type (not rounded ... reason: to keep possiblity for corrections discussed alive by not using accurate numbers here ;-) )
Sources:
Wikipedia
The Fall of France (free google book)
and several other sites googled to check the tank types. Due to discrepancies on the tank numbers (even between german and english wikipedia) I decided to stick to the english wikipedia site)
Research on the battle field:
Well there is not much info around for that. It's in belgium, happend in may and Google maps does not show some rivers, mountains or stuff like that there. Now it is a city some war miniatures i found about it showed it to be a small village in WW II. So think about a map to choose for this.
I was not able to finish the modul research so far, will post it, when done and "when it's done it's done." ©Serb ... just kidding ... due to a bit higher work load at the moment i will possibly be able to finish this till or on this weekend
If somebody researched different numbers or other info just post it.

Re: SGTA Historical Battles
The theory for this is sound however I feel this can be made more immersing.
Pick 1 or 2 maps where engagement range is high and set a referee who determines ( with agreement) a set of rules that allow for greater historical accuracy.
Knocked out tracks could mean a time penalty for tank movement.. sit still for x amount of time with tracks destroyed a second time = tank is now immobile.
also rather than that huge hp pool make it so that a fire instantly ends the tanks life or that x % of the targets hp pool = death. maybe 1 shot from a tiger through the side of an m4 turret would more or less mean its out of the fight.
dont forget its all about the firefly

Would LOVE to get involved in this...
As amusing as I find WoT's fantasy free-for-all, I nearly dug out my copy of Steel Panthers the other day...

It looks like the Tiger is on offer this weekend, 30% off. I sucked in it back then, but I think ill rebuy it as things have moved on since then.
