History
The KV-2 was designed as a heavy tank., the KV-2 was produced at the same time as the KV-1.Due to its large size and heavy turret(the famous fridge) and its large calibre gun, the KV-2 was slower and less agile than the KV-1. Those captured and used by the German Army were commonly known as (Sturm)Panzer kampfwagen KV-II 754® and were often used for artillery observation due to its height
It was first developed when the North-Western Front HQ ordered first four KV-1 tanks from experimental party must been armed with 152 mm howitzers. To do this, the best engineers from KTZ's design bureau were summoned. After two weeks a new project was completed. In a first time engineers decided use the 152 mm Howitzer Model 1909/1930, but later it was replaced with more modern 152 mm M-10 Howitzer Model 1938/1940. A new, bigger turret was designed to accept such heavy cannon. That turret was named "MT-1".
In Game
Position in tech tree
The KV-2 is in a very strange place in the Russian tech tree .You upgrade from the KV-1 . When you buy the KV-2 you can research to the T-150 (Which is available from the KV-1) and secondly you can research the S-51. The S-51 is only able to be researched from the KV-2.
Grinding
When you first buy the KV-2 you will have a very hard time. The 122m gun you get at the start is not the best gun in he world for a Tier 6 tank. I would suggest at the start to unlock the 152m gun to play with or to grind the 107m gun.I would then suggest to unlock the tracks and then the engines this will help with the poor mobility of the tank. You should then go for the second turret to increase your turret armour and then finaly the radio.
Main characteristics Stock
The KV-2 in game will cost you 920,000 credits and will cost you a tidy 26,700 exp to research from the KV-1. Lets have a look at what you go for that large sum of money.
The stock KV-2 has 810 hit points. Lets compare to the other stock. Tier 6 heavy tanks
The T-150 has a healthy 830 hit points, witch is 20 more than the KV-2.
The KV-1s has the lowest stock hit points at 760 witch is 50 less than the KV-2.
The stock M6 Heavy has a reasonable 840 hit points witch is 30 more than the KV-2.
The ARL 44 has the second lowest at 780 hit points 30 less than the KV-2.
The Churchill VII has a tidy 800 hit points 10 less than the KV-2.
Mobility
The stock KV-2 has a weak engine witch will produce a measly 500 horsepower. This combined with the slow 18 degrease a second and 9.77 power / weight ratio. This is how it compares to the other Tier 6 heavy tanks.
T-150
Engine Power 500 hp
Traverse 16 deg/s
Power/Wt Ratio 9.96 hp/t
KV-1s
Engine Power 500 hp
Traverse 28 deg/s
Power/Wt Ratio 11.92 hp/t
Churchill VII
Engine Power 300 hp
Traverse 18 deg/s
Power/Wt Ratio 7.65hp/t
ARL 44
Engine Power 575 hp
Traverse 18 deg/s
Power/Wt Ratio 12.37 hp/t
M6
Engine Power 825 hp
Traverse 21 deg/s
Power/Wt Ratio 14.37hp/
We can see from this that the stock Kv-2 mobility is actually average . Only the stock T-150 and Churchill VII are less mobile than the KV-2.
Main characteristics Elited
The fully elated KV-2 has a tidy sum of hit points and has a
Engine Power 560 hp
Traverse 20 deg/s
Power/Wt Ratio 10.56 hp/t
T-150
Engine Power 700 hp
Traverse 18 deg/s
Power/Wt Ratio 12.89 hp/t
KV-1s
Engine Power 600 hp
Traverse 30 deg/s
Power/Wt Ratio 13.65 hp/t
M6
Engine Power 960 hp
Traverse 25 deg/s
Power/Wt Ratio 16.43 hp/t
Churchill VII
Engine Power 350 hp
Traverse 20 deg/s
Power/Wt Ratio 8.59 hp/t
ARL 44
Engine Power 750 hp
Traverse 20 deg/s
Power/Wt Ratio 15.9 hp/t
We can see from this that the KV-2 has the second weakest engine and the joint second weakest traverse speed combining this with the slow turret traverse it is one of the leas mobile of the Tier 6 heavy, after the Churchill VII of course.
Armour
Frontal View
Angled View

Rear Armour
The entire bottom rear portion of the KV-2′s hull is 70mm and the engine is located there making it a high fire possibility. The upper rear hull armour is only 60mm making it easier to damage but with a smaller chance of hitting the engine compartment. The rear section of the turret is the only strong spot on the rear at 110mm thick however the machine gun sticking out of the rear of the turret can be penetrated easily.
Gun and Crew
You have two choices for the KV-2.You have 107m gun and the 152m gun Here is a comparison between the two guns.
THE 107 GUN
The 107m gun can carry 50 shells in its ammo rack, I would suggest bringing 45 AP rounds and 5 HE ammo.
Dam Pen
Ape shells 300 167
Gold shells 300 219
HE shells 360 54
It has a 6.19 R/M and has an an accuracy of .45 and a aiming time of 3.4s and has a -5 and +18 elevation.
The 107m gun can be successful in all Tiers the KV-2 meats. At Tier 6 and 7 it can be used as a brawler and at Tier8 the gun can be used a second line support tank.
THE 152 GUN
The 152m gun can carry 36 rounds of ammo in its rack, I would suggest bring 36 HE amo
Dam Pen
AP shells 700 110
Gold shells 700 136
HE shells 910 86
The 152m gun has a 2.5 R/M firing time meaning it is very slow at firing. Combined with the 4s aiming time and .6 accuracy this is a brawling weapon. In a Tier 6 game you can wreck havoc taking have the health of most tanks. In a Tier 8 game you will still be able to do damage with the gun.
Other Tier 6 Heavy Guns
M6
90 mm Gun M3 52 240/240/320 HP 160/243/45 mm
The 90mm gun has a ammo rack that can carry 52 rounds .I would suggest to bring 49 AP rounds and 3 HE shells.
Dam Pen
AP 240 160
Gold 240 243
HE 320 45
It has 7.89 R/M and a 2.3s and .38 accuracy. It has -10 & +3 elevation.
We can see that the M6 top gun is a fast firing medium tank gun .But even still this gun is a force to be reckoned with eve in a Tier 8 game. The gun is mainly used for second line sniping in Tier 8 and at top Tier you can even be a brawler.
KV-1S
The 122m gun can carry 60 shells. I would suggest to bring 60 AP shells
Dam Pen
AP 390 175
Gold 390 17
HE 465 61
0.46 m 3.4s It has a 3.75-4.17 r/m and a 0.46 accuracy. It also has a 3.4s aiming time.
The KV-1s gun is a slow firing alpha damage gun. The gun is its saviour and its demise. In a T6 game you can wreck havoc and pen all you meat. But in a Tier 8 game you must also play as a brawler meaning that you will right in the firing line of T8 tanks such as the ISU-152
T-150
The 107m gun can carry 50 shells in its ammo rack, I would suggest bringing 45 AP rounds and 5 HE ammo.
Dam Pen
Ap shells 300 167
Gold shells 300 219
HE shells 360 54
It has a 6.19 R/M and has an an accuracy of .45 and a aiming time of 3.4s and has a -5 and +18 elevation.
The 107m gun can be successful in all Tiers the KV-2 meats. At Tier 6 and 7 it can be used as a brawler and at Tier8 the gun can be used a second line support tank.
Churchill VII
It has a 13.95-15.38 r/m. It also has a 0.34-0.36 accuracy. It also has a aiming time of 1.9-2.3s.
Dam Pen
AP 140 148
Gold 140 203
HE 190 38
It has a 13.95-15.38 r/m. It also has a 0.34-0.36 accuracy. It has an aiming time of 1.9-2.3s.
The Churchill VII gun is a fast firing medium tank gun even though the Churchill VII is a very heavy tank the tank should be used in brawling.
ARL 44
The 90m gun can carry 50 rounds of ammo
Dam Pen
AP 240 212
Gold 240 259
He 320 45
The 90m gun fires 7.4-16.19 r/m. It has a 0.36-0.38 accuracy and a aiming time of 2.9-3.4s.
The ARL gun main advantage is its massive penatration.the gun has reasonable accuracy making it a good second line tank in Tier 7 and 8.
Skills
The KV-2 has 6 crew members these are:
Commander
Gunner
Radio Operator
Driver
Loader
Loader
I would suggest for skills to first pick repairs all round. You do not want to waste a repair kit on tracks you don’t either want to die because of it. Repairs will help you fix your tracks faster.
For the second skill I would pick
Commander Sixth Sense This will tell you if you are spotted. If you are spotted you should normally find cover from arty
Gunner Snap Shot this will increase accuracy during turret rotation this will help you fire quicker.
Radio Operator Signal Boosting I would pick this to increase your low radio range.
Driver Clutch Braking This will help you increase your rotation speed. This will help stop you from being circled.
Loader Fire Fighting I would pick this to decrease the chance of setting fire. I picked this because no other skill is really useful.
Equipment
I would suggest for equipment to bring:
Large-Calibre Tank Gun Rammer I would suggest this so you can reload your gun faster giving you an advantage to you.
Enhanced Gun Laying Drive I would suggest this because the aiming time on your gun is not great s it will help that.
Improved Ventilation Class 3 I would suggest this because it will make you reload faster, aim faster and accelerate faster
Consumables
For consumables I would reacomend a repair kit to reapair your gun ammo rack ETC. A First aid kit is always handy to save a gunner or driver and finally I would bring a fire extinguisher in the case of a fire.
Advantages
- The 152m gun is a very powerful gun. This gun will even damage the most armoured of targets.
- With the 152m gun you do not have to unlock suspension to unlock and fit this weapon.
- The 107m gun will give you a good rate if fire and pen for a Tier 6 tank.
- The KV-2 with the 152m gun may damage multiply tanks when firing HE.
- Most players will run in fear when they see the 152m gun.
Disadvantage
- The tank has a very high turret witch makes it hard to hide your tank.
- The tank has very low mobility witch means you can easily be flanked and killed.
- Even with the large turret the tank has a bad view range witch means unseen emery may shoot at you.
- The armour is the same as on the Tier 5 KV-1.
- Third slowest gun traverse in the game
- Accuracy of both top guns is very bad
Tactics with 107m Gun
Top Tier
As a top Tier with the 107m gun you should play this tanks as a front line brawler .You should also remember to never travel alone. Don’t forget that your traverse speed is awfully slow.
Middle Tier
When your middle Tier in a Tier7 game you should play as a support tank mostly .This way you wont get killed straight away. As always you should never venture around the map on your own. I would suggest helping a Tier 7 tank letting him take the hits while you slowly kill the tank.
Bottom Tier
When you are facing Tier 8 opponents you should always play as a support tank. At Tier you might get one shotted by some tanks. If you have to brawl with a Tier 8 tank try to survive as long as possible to allow higher Tier tanks help you.
Tactics with 152
Top Tier
When you are top Tier you should almost always play as a brawler. The 152m gun has a staggering long reload time. This means you should never travel alone with this tank. When you are top Tier every tank will fear your 152m gun.
Middle Tier
When you are middle Tier you can also play as a brawler. The 152m gun will also strike fear into the strongest of Tier 7 tanks and as always never travel alone in this tank.
Bottom Tier
When you are bottom Tier you should play very cautious. Due to the poor accuracy you till have to fight at close range. You should follow a group of Tier 8 tanks and help them kill tanks while letting them take the hits.
My Review
The Kv-2 is a beast in every Tier is plays in from a Tier 6 game to Tier 8 game. The 152m gun can damage every tank you face from a T34 to a Tiger 2. Even though the 152m gun has a very long reload you will still rack up a great deal of damage.
With the 107m gun you sacrifice derp for fast firing damage gun(fast firing compared to the 152m gun). Properly aimed the gun can penetrated most tank and leave them with a lot less hit points.

Simply right click the image then select 'Copy Image URL'. Open a new browser tab, then paste the copied image URL into the search bar. Then the image should appear fully in the new browser tab.
