Special Session - Skills Test 7th September 19:00 Forum Clock [Completed]
NOTE: DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO 7TH SEPTEMBER
UPDATE: Please see the following document after participating to see comments about your performance (note the document only updates once every 5 minutes): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0Aki2hGyMqaOqdFBONDBFNVQyT1h1dVk0SFRkTXVBWEE&output=html
Hey guys!
Yes... totally unexpected, but it's been a very very very long time since I've done this with any student, so I think it's due. The name says it all really... it's going to be an informal examination of the culmination of what you learned here in SGTA regarding solo combat. While I wouldn't even go near calling myself a pro, there is rarely anyone who can best me at solo combat if I don't make any abysmal blunders.
Participate with any tier 5-8 tank except arty. The student shall choose his tank first THEN I will choose my tank. Be ready for a mixture of medium to short ranged combat. The difficulty of this test will be hard, it is far from impossible to win but I will challenge your skills. I don't really care about beating you myself, I just want to see can you use tricks above and beyond the 'stop, aim & fire'.
Please note you can pass this test even without surviving. The central objective is to see if you can hold your own in a solo fight against an enemy tank of equal tier. At the end of each round (1 round for each person) I will give a decision on whether you can hold your own, and some tips on how better to improve... but obviously, if you can kill me without getting an ammo rack, then you're doing well (or I just made a gargantuan blunder).
Please sign-up with a reply below if interested. I expect at least 1 hour for this session but this will obviously depend on attendance levels. I doubt I'll do another session like this for a while so I would advise people to give it a go, even if you don't expect to win it's good to come for the tips.
As per my motto: Winning is secondary if you can only learn something by losing!

16 views and no-one volunteers yet, is there something I should know?
I'll give it a go, just have to find a suitable tank.

I haven't had any lessons, but I've had a few thousand battles - I'd like to see how I'd fare against you regardless and see what I could learn. If you're tight on space though, I wouldn't mind stepping down for someone else who's had lessons and been in the clan a bit longer

I'm free for this if you need another for one on one? Have to tear myself away from Rome 2 for an evening.

I'm the same as mecrow. Only been to one lesson so far, but if you have a free spot I'd be willing to give it a go, to see how I get on.

I'm interested in this skill test, just to see how far I progressed since I entered the SGTA. Followed quite some classes and tooned every now and then, so I think I became a better player than I was before.
I thought there would be a class about medium tanks on the 6th, I prefer to attend this class if both classes are at the same time. If not, than I'm really interested to do a 1-on-1 skill test.

Try to kill Ding without TKing him in a TC? Interrested! ... no just kidding but I am interessted.
which tank i want to use I am not sure about at the moment. I want to take the one I am the biggest pancake with.
So it might be KV-1s, IS, Comet or Centurion Mk1 I got to think about this.
Thanks
Ronin

This sounds interesting. Can people also attend as spectators? I think some people might not feel up to the test, but would be interested in learning from it by watching the dogfights and learning from the commentaries.
Also, is it ok to Goldderp you?

i too would like to ply my trade in this encounter even if it is against the mighty ding-a-ling!! lets see how it goes, will probably get mauled, but hey its all about learning!! will do my level best to be on in time, if there is a spectator option, i would like that as i think it would be good to learn from watching others also

Just to be clear, I am by no means supremely formidable, I'm just not totally incompetent!
Also, to clarify, everyone will be invited for as many rounds as they feel they wish to be around for. So you can spectate yes.
Lastly, due to the sheer number of people who is signing up (and because 1 round will take roughly 5 minutes), I may start with a few people online tomorrow if I see anyone interested online.
I've decided to record attendees and feedback on an Excel sheet, idea courtesy of Behemoth. :)Link is below:
