How to install mods Empty How to install mods

First word of warning. Mods are fan made, so there's no guarantee that they work or are completely safe and some them are actually banned by WG. But you'll soon find out the most popular modders who you can trust.

Now for installing them.

Manually installing mod

Doing it the old fashioned way.
Let's first look where your mods will be located. Go to where you installed WoT (default C:\Games\World_of_Tanks). You will see a folder called res_mods. Inside this you should have at least one folder named after the current version number, you might have others named after the older versions. Inside the (currently) 8.4 folder you will have all the mod folders and files you have installed for 8.4 and a readme file.

Let's take a look how to install J1mB0's Crosshair mod, from this topic. Now the topic has installation instructions already, but if this is your first time installing a mod, you can be quite lost. So I'm gonna go through it step by step.

Step 1 Download and extract
When you have downloaded the mod it will come in a .zip file. You need a program to extract it, I use the free 7-zip. I use the option "Extract to J1mB0_s_Crosshair_Mod_v1.22" Now I have folder called J1mB0_s_Crosshair_Mod_v1.22, inside it I have 8.4 and arty-mode folders and readme pdf.

Step 2 Installing the mod
I simply copy the 0.8.4 folder and paste it to res_mods folder, merging it with the empty folder there. Done, your mod is installed now. Always watch what you copy where, sometimes you might have a res_mods folder to copy and that has to pasted to World_of_Tanks folder. Or some gui/scripts/text/audio folder that has to be pasted to 0.8.4 folder. The place you download the mod should have installation instructions for this.

Step 3 Extra options
J1mB0's crosshair also has arty mode. To install this I open arty-mode folder and choose the version I like, in this case shell-travel-time and full. I copy the crosshair_panel_strategic file and follow the installation instructions and paste it into "\World of Tanks\res_mods\0.8.4\gui\flash" Done.

Always follow the instructions!

WoT Mod Installer
This is an easy way to install and uninstall mods.

It has an easy "drag and drop" feature, where you only need to drag and drop the zip file into the WoT Mod Installer and in does all the work for you. More info here.
