What has happened to Tier VIII?

I usually see a blue or purple every other game. Either in my team or in the opposing one.

Think there are a lot of technical solutions that would work realtime, but all kind of skill based team balancing finally result in the same problem that you have to punish good players for their skills by putting them in the weaker team, with the top players being penalized most and the worst players like notorious afk players profiting most. This would even out player stats on the long run as well, for example afk players and bots with 48% WR and unicums with 52%. Which leads to the question why players should try to improve their skills at all, if the MM neutralizes their efforts anyway and hinders them from getting their fair reward of winning an appropriate amount of games? I don't believe we will ever see skill based MM because it simply kills the game.

The problem with skill-based MM is that WG would probably use their own Player Rating, which is such utter pants that it's a disgrace to pants.
